cd cover & disc art
I undertook this fun project at the request of the not-for-profit Western Australian Music Industry Association's Marcomms Manager after I offered my services at no charge for their upcoming annual festival. They cited the Kiss My WAMi CD as something I could collaborate with them on. The brief was to design CD cover and disc art that fitted in with the visual elements and branding of the WAM Festival collateral designed so far by Green Scribble – I could choose to use the existing graphic elements directly or create my own evolution of them. I chose the latter. I took the triangle motif, adapted and reimagined by Green Scribble from 2013’s festival theme, and stuck 6 together to form hexagons. These can slot together symmetrically or organically – like cells in a beehive or a chemical reaction, concepts that work well as metaphors for WAM’s integral role in the West Australian music industry and for WA’s diverse music scene generally. I came up with 3 concepts that I wanted to explore, so created a wallpaper of the triangle cells and overlaid different negative shapes like templates. The map of Western Australia was the concept the WAM team embraced after I submitted my 3 designs for approval and the one you see here.
